TESTIMONIAL 1

UPADTE TO TESTIMONIAL 1 - JULY 2005

Two years ago I wrote about our initial experience with placing our daughter in the Kumon program and I thought I would update Charlotte's website with her fantastic progress and personally thank the staff at the Alamo Heights Kumon Center for helping my daughter make it happen.

My daughter will be entering the 3rd grade this fall and is now 2 grade levels ahead in her math.  As a result of her progress and confidence; she was tested & placed in the Talented & Gifted Program at her elementary school. My initial worries about her being behind at the beginning of her first grade are totally gone - I hope for good.

I believe these successes are a direct result of her consistent work in the Kumon program. My daughter is more disciplined about doing all her school work and it is an uncommon occurrence when her school work last longer than about 15 minutes a day for her. Kumon and school homework has become a normal part of her life.

I still stand by what I said two years ago - placing my daughter in the Kumon program was the best decision my husband and I have ever made about her education. I am a proud "Kumon Parent". I believe in the Kumon philosophy  and anyone who has additional questions or wants to hear what it is really like please don't hesitate to ask Charlotte to put you in touch.

Thanks Alamo Heights Kumon Center - Sonya Groves

MAY 2003

We recently moved to the San Antonio area from out-of-state and enrolled our daughter in a local elementary school. She was in Kindergarten and already behind in reading, writing skills and math. By the end of her Kindergarten year, I knew we had to do something about giving her a better foundation and helping her catch up or she would be behind forever.

We had known about Kumon through friends who have their own children in the program. We knew it was successful for them but their children were never behind in any of their learning skills. After reading the literature about Kumon and its philosophy, we believed that it would be better to enroll our daughter in a supplemental learning program rather then a tutorial session that would patch the situation as opposed to providing life long skills for learning.

We have been in the program now for four months and our daughter just started first grade and WOW what a difference a summer can make. She’s a confident learner who isn’t behind the eight ball any more. She went from barely being able to count to thirty to counting in the hundreds and doing simple addition. We couldn’t read her handwriting and now she writes clearly and is improving daily. And lastly, she is reading. When we started the program she couldn’t read and was still just putting sounds to letters. After a summer of diligent hard work by our whole family she is reading short books and easy sentences and sounding out unfamiliar words. We couldn’t be happier but more importantly she thinks first grade is a snap.

Kumon has been the best choice we have ever made about our daughter’s education.

 TESTIMONIAL 2

Note to Parent, Michelle Welch from her daughter’s Title 1 Teacher regarding Ashley’s reading progress and her removal from a remedial reading program after being enrolled in Kumon. (Some parts of the original letter have been omitted such as names and phone numbers)

 Dear Parent or Guardian,                                                          8-21-03

At the end of last year your child Ashley Welch was evaluated by a reading inventory (Grade 2) or by the TAKS test (Grades 3 and 4). At this time I feel your child will experience success in the regular classroom reading program without Title 1 assistance. Daily Title 1 services will be discontinued at this time although I will continue to keep in contact with the homeroom teacher and monitor your child’s progress.

If you have any questions, please call and leave a voicemail message. I will return your call as soon as possible.

Sincerely, School Campus Title 1 Teacher.

From a conversation with a Kumon student, Katalina, in August 2005.

Katalina was asked by Mrs. Charlotte, "Are you excited about going back to Keystone this year?"

She responded with a big smile on her face, "Yes!  I really love math since I started coming here to Kumon.  Now math is my favorite subject.  It is really fun!"
